THE BENEFIT BANK

Connecting Communities To Resources

What is The Ohio Benefit Bank?

The Ohio Benefit Bank is a program offered through a public-private partnership between the Governor’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives and the Ohio Association of Second Harvest Foodbanks. It is designed to connect low-income families with Federal programs such as cash assistance, medical benefits and tax credits. A trained counselor assists individuals in preparing and electronically filing a benefit application or a tax return using a computer based software program.

There are income eligibility levels that determine if you will qualify for programs and there are some stipulations that may make you ineligible.

PICCA's Free Tax Clinic, a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program is certified by the IRS.

IRS-trained volunteers will prepare your taxes for free through the PICCA Free Tax Clinic using Benefit Bank software. PICCA can help you keep your refund in your own pocket and get your return back as fast as possible.

Free Direct Deposit
Free E-Filing

Why is PICCA doing this?

PICCA is reaching out to low-wage workers to help them claim and KEEP all their tax refund. We particularly want to make certain all workers claim the Earned Income Tax Credit, which can significantly increase the amount of their refund.

What is the Earned Income Tax Credit?
The Earned Income Tax Credit (or EITC) is a federal program that lets employees who work for low wages get a larger tax refund. The amount of money you can get back through EITC is based your annual taxable income and the number of children in your household.

How fast will I get my refund?
The fastest way to get your refund is by E-filing and direct deposit into a bank account. PICCA is able to help you use both these tools to get your refund back as quickly as possible, sometimes in as little as 10 working days. Our services are completely FREE, so you do not have to spend any part of your refund for a faster refund or preparation. Your money stays in your pocket, where it belongs.

Beware of other preparers who offer “Rapid Refund” or same day returns. Paid preparers often advertise “Fast Cash Refunds” or “Instant Refunds.” Many of these quick refunds are LOANS, commonly called Refund Anticipation Loans (RALs). When you get a RAL, you are paying to borrow against your own refund with interest. It can cost hundreds of dollars that should have been in your pocket. Don’t be fooled!

What Should I Bring?

Last year’s tax return
Social Security cards for everyone in household
W-2s from all employers
All 1099 forms
Child care provider tax ID information or Social Security number of sitter
Bank account number and routing number if you plan to use direct deposit for refund (this is the fastest way to get your refund)
